After a shaky start on October 16th, the Purple Raiders had doubts about claiming the Big 12 Conference crown. However, a Leah Anderson kill sparked the engines for Bloomington as they took the first set 25-17. Yet, the domination was not over for the three time defending champions. BHS pulled out to an 11-3 lead to start the second set. But Normal West wasn’t ready to back down. Led by Carly Baughman, the Wildcats tied things up at 24 all. Back-to-back kills by sophomore, Lauren Strange, sealed the deal for the Purple Raiders, and they claimed the crown for the fourth straight year in a row.

Grace Sanders commented on the win, “It’s really exciting. It definitely shows our potential for the post season. It’s really cool that we’ve been able to do this four years in a row.”

The Raiders came far, succumbing to Benet Academy in the Super Sectional.  With many players returning, next year has the opportunity to be just as successful.
